Emergency & Listening to Faiz !

November 7, 2007 · 2 Comments

I don’t have a great taste for poetry but whenever I have listened to something from Faiz, I could easily relate it to past, and perhaps the present events in pakistan. The reason mostly is that Faiz has lived through a struggling pakistan under a ruling general and then observed the tragedy of East pakistan infront of his eyes.

His poetry has caught the plight and suffering of the nation which he saw infront of his eyes. Unfortunately, as we are once again suffering becuase of a ruling general I found his poetry comforting as it relates to the current incidents.

And thanks to YouTube, I could listen to them. Specially, I love this poem from faiz Nisaar main teri galiyon peh ai watan.

Nisaar main teri galiyon peh ai watan, keh jahan
Chali hai rasm keh koi na sar utha keh chale
Jo koi chahane wala tawaaf ko nikale
Nazar chura keh chale, Jismo-jan bacha keh chale

Hai ahel-e-dil ke liye ab yeh nazm-e-bast-o-kushaad
Keh sang-o-khisht muqayyad hain aur sag aazad

Bahut hain zulm keh dast-e-bahana-ju keh liye
Jo chund ahel-e-junoon tere naam leva hain
Baney hain ahel-e-hawas muddai bhi, munsif bhi
Kise wakil karen, kis-se munsifi chahen

Magar Guzaarane walon ke din guzarate hain
Tere firaq mein yun subah-o-shaam karate hain

Bujha jo raozan-e-zindan to dil yeh samajha hai
Keh teri maang sitaron se bhar gai hogi
Chamak uthe hain salasil to humne jaana hai
Keh ab sahar tere rukh par bikhar gai hogi

Gharaz tasvvur-e-shaam-o-sahar mein jeete hai
Giraft-e-saaya-e-diwaar-o-dar mein jeete hain

Yuhin hamesha ulajhati rahi hai zulm se khalq
Na unki rasm nai hai, na apni reet nai
Yuhin hamesha khilaye hain humne aag mein phool
Na unki haar nai hai na apni jeet nai

Isi sabab se falak ka gilaa nahin karate
Tere firaq mein hum dil bura nahin karate

Gar aaj tujhse juda hain to kal baham hongey
Yeh raat bhar ki judai to koi baat nahin
Gar aaj auj peh hai taal-e-raqib to kya
Yeh chaar din ki khudai to koi baat nahin

Jo tujhse ahad-o-wafa ustuvaar rakhate hain
Ilaaj-e-gardishe lailo-nihaar rakhate hain.

You can listen to it directly in Faiz Voice here

Another wonderful ghazal is “Hum Dekhain Gay” (I heard it first time on ATP Credo)

A couple of other wonderful clips of Faiz Poetry.

“Ajj Bazar Main Pa-Bajolaan Chalo”

“Intesaab”

Students Geared Up to save the country !

November 7, 2007 · Leave a Comment

Students across Pakistan are gearing up to protest against the current voilation of human rights and basic social rights. Taking the basic right of free information is insulting to the educated young generation of Pakistani Universities.

Protestes in LUMS (Lahore Univeristy of Management Sciences, Lahore)http://pakistanmartiallaw.blogspot.com/2007/11/details-of-lums-rally-and-police.html

Protests In NU-FAST (National University of Computer and Emerging Sciences, Lahore)http://pakistanmartiallaw.blogspot.com/2007/11/update-on-fast-university-crackdown.html

Proceedings at PUCIT (Punjab University College of Information Technology, Lahore)

This is a good sign as youth is coming forward to save thier future.

I salute all who at this time are coming forward to save this country. I believe this can be a defining moment in the history of the country which can make it clear that Army can no longer play with the civil society. The times have changed now, media and education has empowered the people of pakistan and they can no longer sit quitely while the generals play around with this nation.

Marshal Law ! Not Emergency !

November 3, 2007 · 7 Comments

Pakistan yet again messed up badly by Army, the very people who take oath for the safety of this country.

It seems that there is no law in the country and one man is defying every rule of the state just to keep himself and the army in power. Musharraf wants democracy and judiciary in the country provided army remains in power and remain untouchable. What a mess !

It is ironic that the constitution has been withheld under ‘emergency’ which itself is a provision in the constitution. The constitution has been withheld but the prime minister and the constitutional government remains operational (crazy!). The only party effected by this move is the judiciary. The chief justice and the senior judges have been removed under this emergency. This is “Musharraf Law” or “Marshal Law” as we should call it and still they are trying to decieve the people of pakistan by calling it emergency.

The army is doing what they want to do and calling it what they want to call it, this is the state of law in pakistan at the moment and still they want to make average pakistani follow law. Is Islamabad different from FATA today? where pakistan is throwing bombs to control lawlessness. I have been a great supporter of army operation in northern pakistan to control lawlessness but when the saviours of law themselves don’t follow any law just to keep themselves in power, I can’t support thier version of law anymore.

Pakistan Army has destroyed the country more than what an enemy could do in last 60 years. I think it is time that we pakistanis come out of our shells and participate in some way to stop this insanity if we want to save this country.

It is a sad evening for me watching these lawless developments in Pakistan.

BTW: I can watch GEO TV in Dubai. I am more informed sitting here than a pakistani sitting inside the country.
